General Technical Data
The Suzuki DF300BMD is a technologically
advanced 300 Hp outboard that refines the flagship experience through
its innovative integrated steering system. By moving the steering
cylinder into the mid-unit, Suzuki has eliminated the external steering
ram, creating a cleaner transom appearance and providing better
clearance in the motorwell for easier rigging on various boat types.
The redesigned gear case reduces frontal projected area by 4 percent,
which decreases water resistance, increases top speed by more than 2
percent, and contributes to improved fuel efficiency. Improved gear oil
circulation lowers operating temperatures and reduces gear oil capacity
from 3.2 liters to 2.8 liters.
The proven Suzuki Dual Prop System distributes engine torque evenly over
two contra-rotating propellers, reducing torque per propeller and
enabling a more hydrodynamic gear case design while delivering
exceptional stability and powerful reverse thrust. With features like
the Dual Injector System, Dual Louver air intake, and Variable Valve
Timing, the DF300BMD delivers awesome power with maximum efficiency and
reliability.

Powerhead
The DF300BMD is built around a potent 4,390 cc V6 powerhead with a
narrow 55-degree bank angle, providing the tremendous torque essential
for pushing heavy loads efficiently. The block is engineered for high
performance and durability, utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques
throughout.
The powerhead incorporates a DOHC 24-valve configuration for optimal
airflow and combustion efficiency. The valve train is driven by a
self-adjusting oil-bathed timing chain with an automatic hydraulic
tensioner, providing maintenance-free operation for the engine's
lifetime. The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system controls the opening
and closing timing of the intake valves depending on engine operation,
delivering smooth, powerful torque and tremendous acceleration across
all speed ranges.
The pistons undergo shot peening treatment, where metal balls are
projected onto the piston heads after casting, creating fine dimples
that distribute combustion pressure more evenly and preserve piston
integrity over the long term.
The offset driveshaft design positions the crankshaft in front of the driveshaft, moving the outboard's center of gravity forward. This configuration makes the outboard more compact, improves weight distribution on the boat's transom, and significantly reduces vibration by moving the engine's axis of inertia up over the upper engine mount.
Fuel System
The DF300BMD's fuel system is centered around the Suzuki Lean Burn Control System, an intelligent technology that continuously monitors engine performance and operating conditions to optimize combustion.
Using a network of sensors measuring parameters such as engine load,
throttle opening, and environmental data, the system predicts with
extraordinary precision the amount of fuel needed for efficient
combustion. This results in significant fuel savings across a wide range
of operating conditions, particularly at cruising speeds where
reductions can reach up to 14 percent, while also decreasing CO2
emissions.
The Dual Injector System uses two injectors per cylinder to provide
immense precision, improved atomization, and increased fuel efficiency.
Injecting fuel achieves two critical functions: atomizing the fuel for
combustion and cooling the cylinder. The dual injector design atomizes
the fuel to enhance the cooling action in the combustion chamber and
suppress knocking, allowing Suzuki to increase power output by 3
percent.
The Multi-Point Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection system precisely meters fuel to each cylinder for optimal combustion. A knock sensor monitors combustion to provide optimized performance while maximizing power output and increasing engine durability. A fuel cooler in the fuel line cools the gasoline before it reaches the combustion chamber, improving combustion and performance as cooler fuel has higher density.
Lubrication System
The DF300BMD employs a trochoid pump pressure lubrication system to ensure consistent pressurized oil delivery to all critical engine components. The engine has an oil capacity of 8.0 liters. Recommended engine oil is high-quality 4-stroke motor oil meeting NMMA FC-W certification or API classification SG, SH, SJ, SL, SM, with viscosity SAE 10W-40 recommended for most conditions.
Cooling System
Cooling efficiency is enhanced by a dual water inlet system, a critical
feature for high-performance operation. The system features water inlets
positioned to ensure a reliable amount of cooling water, especially at
high speeds. The redesigned gear case also incorporates improved water
flow management for optimal engine temperature control.
For post-operation maintenance, the Fresh Water Flushing System allows
easy connection of a garden hose to rinse salt, sand, and other debris
from the cooling passages, protecting the engine from corrosion. The
Suzuki Water Detecting System alerts the operator with both visual and
audio warnings when water is present in the fuel, preventing issues like
poor combustion, power loss, and corrosion.
Mid Section and Lower Unit
The mid-section houses the integrated steering system, a groundbreaking
feature that places the steering cylinder within the mid-unit rather
than externally. This design eliminates clearance issues with the
motorwell, enables easier rigging to various boat types, and creates a
cleaner, simpler appearance.
The lower unit features a completely redesigned gear case that reduces
frontal projected area by 4 percent compared to the previous model. This
hydrodynamic design decreases water resistance, contributing to a top
speed increase of more than 2 percent and improved fuel efficiency.
The redesigned gear case also improves gear oil circulation, which
suppresses temperature rise and increases durability while reducing gear
oil capacity from 3.2 liters to 2.8 liters. A new mechanism for changing
gear oil allows oil changes without lifting the vessel when using an oil
changer.
The 2-Stage Gear Reduction system incorporates the offset driveshaft
with a first stage reduction between the crankshaft and driveshaft, and
a second stage reduction inside the gear case. This design makes the
2.29:1 gear ratio possible, allowing the engine to turn large diameter
propellers with tremendous power for quick acceleration and high
propulsive efficiency.
The Suzuki Dual Prop System features contra-rotating propellers that
provide more grip underwater and distribute engine torque evenly over
two propellers. This configuration reduces torque per propeller,
allowing gear diameter to be reduced and enabling a smaller, more
hydrodynamic gear case design. Because each propeller rotates in a
different direction, exceptional stability is achieved, and the
contra-rotating propellers produce strong reverse thrust for superior
maneuverability.
Trim and Tilt System
The Power Trim and Tilt (PTT) system provides hydraulic control over the outboard's angle, allowing the operator to adjust boat trim for optimal performance, fuel efficiency, and ride comfort. The system includes a Tilt Limit System that prevents the outboard from tilting beyond a predetermined point, protecting both the engine and the boat from damage.
An optional Steer-by-Wire (SBW) system is available, an innovative technology that allows electronic control of the integrated steering using a special joystick with automatic rudder control functions and assisted docking mode.
Propeller Information
The DF300BMD is designed specifically for the Suzuki Dual Prop System featuring contra-rotating propellers. The recommended propeller pitch selection ranges from 12 inches to 31.5 inches. The Watergrip Propeller, a stainless steel propeller with a new interchangeable square-shaped bush, offers efficient conversion of engine power to propulsion resulting in better grip and performance.
