The powerhead of the Evinrude G2 300 features a 74-degree V6 block cast
from high-strength, corrosion-resistant materials. It is the first
two-stroke block specifically designed for direct fuel injection. The
cylinder bore measures 98 mm, and the piston stroke is 76 mm,
contributing to the engine's 210 cubic inch displacement. The engine
utilizes a loop-charged design with advanced direct fuel injection and
more efficient cylinders that contribute to the 15 percent reduction in
fuel consumption.
The top model, the E-TEC G2 300 R.A.V.E., utilizes a two-position
exhaust port that broadens the powerband for enhanced performance across
the RPM range. As a two-stroke engine, it utilizes a reed valve
induction system with no camshaft timing belts or valve clearance
adjustments required, eliminating components that require adjustment or
replacement.
The powerhead is designed with a low-friction architecture that
eliminates submersed pump gears, belts, cams, oil scraping rings, and
mechanical oil pumps found in four-stroke competitors. The firing order
is 1-2-3-4-5-6, with inductive discharge ignition controlled by the EMM.
The fuel system is centered around Evinrude's advanced E-TEC direct
injection technology with stratified low RPM combustion mode. The
PurePower Combustion technology provides 15 percent more fuel efficiency
than competitive outboards and delivers faster acceleration and more
stable RPMs. High-pressure fuel injectors, precisely controlled by the
EMM, deliver a finely atomized fuel spray directly into the combustion
chambers.
The system is designed to deliver 20 percent more torque than all other
engines in its class. The engine is designed to operate on standard 87
octane unleaded gasoline, with minimum octane rating 87 AKI (R+M)/2 in
the U.S. and Canada, or 90 RON outside of the U.S. and Canada. Use of
higher octane fuels is not harmful, but also not necessary. The sealed
fuel system design enhances safety and reduces evaporative emissions.
There is no requirement to mix oil with fuel.
Lubrication is managed by a sophisticated multi-point targeted oiling
system with EMM-controlled variable ratio. An electric oil pump draws
oil from the integral tank and injects it directly onto critical engine
components based on real-time engine speed and load demands. There is no
requirement to mix oil with fuel, as lubrication is a completely
separate system.
An on-engine oil tank with a capacity of 2 gallons (7.5 liters) is
standard , with additional accessory tank sizes available including 1.8
gallon (6.8 L), 3 gallon (11.3 L), and 10 gallon (37.85 L) tanks to suit
extended operation requirements. The recommended lubricant is Evinrude
XD100 Direct Injection Oil. Evinrude XD50 2-Stroke Oil is also
acceptable. When operating in conditions below 32°F (0°C), Evinrude
XD100 oil must be used. The oil tank can be filled through the top of
the cowl, and a gauge on the digital displays shows oil level. The
system eliminates the need for oil changes, oil filters, and the
disposal of used crankcase oil.
The cooling system is a pressure and temperature-controlled water-cooled
design with self-flushing capability. A high-capacity extra capacity
water pump circulates water through extensive water jackets in the
cylinder block and cylinder heads. The system uses a two-stage design
controlled to maintain optimal operating temperature across all engine
speeds.
The self-flushing cooling system requires minimal maintenance and
includes stainless steel thermostats for corrosion resistance. The EMM
continuously monitors engine temperature and will activate the S.A.F.E.
warning system to reduce RPM and protect the engine if an overheat
condition is detected, allowing the operator to return to port at
reduced speed.
| Mid Section and Lower Unit |
The mid-section represents a revolutionary design that integrates the
steering system and gears into the housing, protecting components from
exposure and creating a cleaner transom installation. A new hydraulic
helix, integrated into the bracket, replaces the traditional hydraulic
steering ram. An electric-boost motor tucked within the bracket adds
power steering to all Evinrude E-TEC G2 motors in 25- and 30-inch shaft
lengths.
The motor pivots on a tilt tube that is about 2.5 times larger in
diameter than any previous design, providing exceptional rigidity. The
rigging tube terminates at a port on top of the transom bracket and does
not move when the motor is steered, allowing boat builders to design
motorwells for a much shorter tube. The lower unit features the sleek
SLX gearcase with a 1.85:1 reduction ratio.
A gearcase lube reservoir under the cowl indicates both the lubricant
level and water contamination. The gearcase features a
forward-neutral-reverse shifting mechanism with a shift actuator that
requires calibration during service. Stainless steel components and
multiple layers of anti-corrosive coating provide extensive corrosion
protection. The exhaust is routed through the propeller hub.
The Evinrude G2 300 is equipped with Power Trim and Tilt as standard
equipment. The trim system utilizes a hydraulic helix control integrated
into the bracket. The system includes iTrim, an automatic trim
optimization feature that adjusts engine angle for optimal performance
and fuel efficiency based on operating conditions. The trim range is -6
deg to +15 deg, providing precise adjustment of the boat's running
attitude.
The tilt range extends to 81 deg for all models, offering ample
clearance for beaching, launching, or trailering. The system includes a
manual release valve for emergency operation with a torque specification
of 45 to 55 lb-in (5.1 to 6.2 Nm). The tilt-limiting system prevents
over-tilting of the motor.
Proper propeller selection is critical to allow the engine to operate
within its 5400-6000 RPM full-throttle range under normal load
conditions. The propeller shaft splines should be greased with
recommended lubricant during installation. The propeller nut must be
torqued to 70 to 80 lb-ft for secure installation.
The anode screw on the propeller shaft requires 177 to 204 lb-in of
torque. Right-hand propellers are considered standard rotation, rotating
clockwise when viewed from the rear to propel the boat forward. In
multiple outboard installations, counter-rotation propellers (left-hand)
are used on one engine to provide balanced steering torque.

The Evinrude G2 300 is engineered for minimal maintenance requirements,
representing one of the most significant ownership advantages of the
E-TEC system. A key benefit is no scheduled dealer maintenance required
for the first five years or 500 hours of normal recreational use. There
are no valves to adjust, belts to service, chains to replace, or oil to
change over the life of the engine.
The engine features an auto-storage or winterization mode that
simplifies long-term storage, eliminating the need for manual fuel
system treatment. The EMM continuously monitors engine systems and
stores fault codes for diagnostic purposes. Recommended pre-launch
checks include verifying fluid levels and inspecting for any signs of
damage or corrosion.
Saltwater applications require minimal additional inspections and
lubrication. The engine has no operational break-in procedure, allowing
full performance from the first start. Battery requirements include a
12-volt battery meeting manufacturer specifications. Iridium spark plugs
contribute to extended service intervals. If the oil system is
disassembled or the oil tank runs empty, priming of the oil system is
required before operation.

broad spectrum of boat types and boating activities. It is an ideal
choice for 22 to 30-foot fiberglass and aluminum fishing boats,
including center consoles, bay boats, and offshore fishing rigs where
the best-in-class torque provides exceptional hole shot and mid-range
power.
The engine delivers 20 percent more torque than all other engines in its
class, providing superior acceleration for performance craft and water
sports applications. It is well-suited for luxury yachts, commercial
fishing vessels, and high-speed boats requiring strong thrust. The
engine is certified for saltwater operation with extensive
corrosion-resistant components and is designed to provide reliable
continuous operation in harsh water conditions.
