The Deutz TCD 2013 L06 2V is a 4-cycle, inline
six-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine from the Deutz
2013 series, designed to meet EU Stage IIIB and EPA Tier 4 interim
emissions standards. This engine combines a displacement of 7.14 L with
an advanced common-rail fuel injection system and electronic engine
management (EMR 3) to deliver 200 kW (268 hp) at 2,300 rpm. The TCD 2013
L06 2V is engineered for off-highway applications including construction
machinery, agricultural equipment, and material handling vehicles where
low emissions, fuel efficiency, and high availability are required.
The engine’s architecture centers on a robust inline six-cylinder
configuration with a bore of 108 mm and a long stroke of 130 mm,
favoring low-end torque generation. The common-rail injection system and
electronic controls provide precise fuel metering across the operating
range, resulting in a peak torque of 1,050 Nm (775 lb-ft) at only 1,500
rpm. Wet cylinder liners enable in-frame overhaul without block removal,
extending service life and reducing downtime. The engine is equipped
with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system and a diesel oxidation
catalyst (DOC) to achieve emissions compliance.
Engine Type: Inline 6-cylinder, 4-cycle, turbocharged, intercooled,
water-cooled diesel.
Displacement: 7.14 L (439.4 cu.in).
Bore: 108.0 mm (4.25 in).
Stroke: 130.0 mm (5.12 in).
Compression Ratio: 18.1:1.
Combustion Process: Direct injection.
Firing Order: 1-5-3-6-2-4.
Rated Power Output: 200 kW (268 hp) @ 2,300 rpm.
Maximum Torque Output: 1,050 Nm (775 lb-ft) @ 1,500 rpm.
Idle Speed: 650-700 rpm.
Governed Speed Range: 650-2,450 rpm (maximum no-load speed).
The cylinder block is manufactured from high-grade gray cast iron as a
monobloc construction, integrating the cylinders and upper crankcase
into a single casting. The block incorporates wet cylinder liners, which
are replaceable without complete engine disassembly and permit in-frame
overhaul. Each liner is centrifugally cast, machined to final
specification, and finished with a plateau honing process.
Bore diameter measures 108.0 mm (4.25 in) with a piston stroke of 130.0
mm (5.12 in), yielding a total displacement of 7.14 L (439.4 cu.in).
This under-square bore-to-stroke ratio of 0.831 strongly favors low-end
torque generation and thermal efficiency.
The crankshaft is forged from chromium-molybdenum steel. Seven main
bearings support the crankshaft. Thrust washers positioned at the center
main bearing control axial crankshaft play. Connecting rods are forged
from high-carbon steel with an I-beam cross-section. Pistons are cast
aluminum featuring low-friction ring packs designed for the high
cylinder pressures generated by common-rail injection.
The cylinder head is manufactured from gray cast iron as a block-type
cylinder head spanning all six cylinders. Two valves per cylinder are
utilized: one intake valve and one exhaust valve, for a total of 12
valves across the engine. This two-valve-per-cylinder configuration
reduces valvetrain complexity and component count.
Intake valve diameter measures 46.0 mm (1.81 in), while exhaust valve
diameter measures 42.0 mm (1.65 in). Valve stem diameter is 9.0 mm (0.35
in) for both intake and exhaust.
The valvetrain utilizes an overhead valve (OHV) configuration with
pushrods and rocker arms. The camshaft is located within the cylinder
block and is driven by gears from the crankshaft. Valve clearance
adjustment is accomplished via threaded adjusters with locknuts at the
rocker arm.
The TCD 2013 L06 2V employs a Deutz common-rail fuel injection system
operating at high pressure. A high-pressure pump supplies fuel to the
common rail accumulator, which distributes fuel to the injectors. Fuel
rail pressure is regulated by the EMR 3 electronic control system based
on load and engine speed.
The injectors are solenoid-actuated units with multi-hole nozzles.
Multiple injection events per combustion cycle - including pilot
injection, main injection, and post-injection - are utilized to reduce
combustion noise, lower emissions, and enable smoother engine operation.
The injection timing and fuel quantity are controlled by the EMR 3
system based on inputs from crankshaft position, camshaft position, rail
pressure, coolant temperature, intake air temperature, boost pressure,
and throttle position. The fuel system incorporates a primary fuel
filter with water separator and a secondary high-efficiency cartridge
filter.
The lubrication system utilizes forced-feed circulation with a gear-type
oil pump. A pressure relief valve integrated into the pump maintains
system pressure within design parameters.
Total oil capacity is 24.0 L (25.4 qt) including filter. Recommended oil
viscosity is SAE 15W-40 meeting API CJ-4 or higher specifications. Oil
pressure specifications require a minimum of 1.0 bar (15 psi) at warm
idle and 4.0-5.0 bar (58-73 psi) at rated speed. The oil filter is a
spin-on, full-flow type mounted to the cylinder block. A liquid-to-oil
cooler is integrated into the lubrication system.
The cooling system is water-cooled with thermostatic control. A
centrifugal water pump, driven by the accessory drive belt, circulates
coolant through the cylinder block, cylinder head, turbocharger housing,
and EGR cooler.
The thermostat is a wax-pellet unit with an opening temperature of 85-90
°C (185-194 °F). Total coolant capacity is 9.8 L (10.4 qt) for the
engine only. A charge air intercooler (aftercooler) is integrated into
the intake system.
Aspiration System: The TCD 2013 L06 2V is equipped with a fixed geometry
turbocharger. A charge air intercooler reduces intake air temperature
entering the intake manifold, increasing charge density. Maximum boost
pressure is 2.0-2.2 bar (29-32 psi) absolute under full load.
Exhaust Aftertreatment: The engine is equipped with a cooled exhaust gas
recirculation (EGR) system to reduce NOx emissions. A diesel oxidation
catalyst (DOC) is installed downstream of the turbocharger to oxidize
carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is
not fitted on the 2V configuration.
Engine Management System: The Deutz EMR 3 (Electronic Motor Regulation
3) system provides full electronic control of fuel injection, EGR valve
position, and engine speed governing. The system includes CAN bus
connectivity for machine integration and diagnostic output via J1939
protocol. An electronic accelerator pedal is required for variable-speed
applications.
Overall Length: 1,150 mm (45.3 in) measured from front pulley face to
flywheel housing flange.
Overall Width: 695 mm (27.4 in).
Overall Height: 990 mm (39.0 in) from oil pan bottom to intake manifold
top.
