The Yanmar 3GM30F is a freshwater-cooled (heat
exchanger) version of the 3-cylinder GM series marine diesel engine. It
is widely used in mid-sized sailboats for its compact design and high
reliability. The engine is available with two transmission options: the
KM3P/KM3A mechanical cone clutch and the SD20 saildrive unit.
The Yanmar 3GM30F is a vertical, 3-cylinder, 4-cycle, water-cooled
diesel engine featuring an indirect injection system with a swirl
pre-combustion chamber for smooth operation. Its freshwater cooling
system, utilizing a heat exchanger, protects the engine from the
corrosive effects of raw seawater. The engine is rated for 20.1 kW (27
hp) at 3600 rpm, with a continuous rating of 17.9 kW (24 hp) at 3400
rpm.
Known for its high reliability and compact design, this engine has
become a standard powerplant for sailboats up to approximately 35 feet.
The engine weighs 138 kg (304 lbs) including marine gear, making it
suitable for vessels where weight distribution is critical. The firing
order is 1-3-2-1. The compression pressure specification ranges from 28
to 33 kg/cm2.
