The Deutz TD2011L04W is a 4-cylinder, 4-cycle
inline diesel engine from the 2011 family. This power unit is
turbocharged and water-cooled, designed for compact construction
machinery, industrial equipment, and welding generators. The TD2011L04W
employs a direct injection system with a pump-pipe-nozzle (unit pump)
configuration, avoiding common rail electronics. The engine’s compact
design places all maintenance points on one side, reducing service costs
and increasing machinery availability.
Excellent cold starting properties permit operation in extreme
conditions, while the robust construction allows use with high sulfur
fuels worldwide. The engine meets EPA Tier 4i emission standards in
power ratings below 56 kW. The water-cooled version (W in the model
designation) distinguishes this engine from air-cooled variants in the
2011 family, providing consistent temperature control for continuous
industrial duty. This engine powers wheel loaders from Wacker Neuson and
Liebherr, roller-compactors from Hamm, and equipment from Miller and
Neuson.

The cylinder block is manufactured from high-grade cast iron with an
open-deck design. Four cylinder bores are machined directly into the
parent metal without replaceable liners. The block features a siamese
bore configuration where cylinders share common walls, reducing overall
engine length for installation in compact machinery. The crankcase
extends below the crankshaft centerline with a deep skirt design.
Five main bearing bulkheads support the crankshaft. The water jacket
surrounds the full height of each cylinder bore. Cast oil galleries run
the length of the block. All maintenance components, including the oil
filter, fuel filter, oil dipstick, and filler neck, are positioned on
one side of the block. This single-side access design permits service in
confined engine compartments without requiring access around the entire
engine.
The cylinder head is a single-piece cast iron component with a
cross-flow intake and exhaust port arrangement. Each cylinder receives
two valves: one intake valve and one exhaust valve, arranged in a
parallel valve layout. The valve train is an overhead valve (OHV)
configuration with pushrods and rocker arms. The camshaft is located in
the cylinder block, not the cylinder head.
Valve stem seals are positive-type on intake valves only for the 2011
series. Hardened valve seat inserts on both sides resist wear under
turbocharged operation. The cylinder head incorporates an integrated
exhaust passage. Valve clearance adjustment uses a screw-and-locknut
arrangement on the rocker arms. Cold starting properties remain
excellent even under extreme conditions due to the swirl-inducing intake
port design.
The fuel system is a mechanical direct injection design using
pump-pipe-nozzle configuration. An in-line injection pump supplies fuel
to individual unit pumps, one per cylinder, integrated into the pump
housing. High-pressure fuel lines route individually from each pump
element to the corresponding injection nozzle in the cylinder head.
Injection nozzles are multi-hole type. The system operates at pressures
up to 1000 bar (14,500 psi).
A mechanical centrifugal governor is standard, providing speed
regulation across varying loads. An optional electronic engine governor
(EMR) is available for applications requiring isochronous control. A
fuel lift pump draws fuel from the tank. The optimized combustion system
ensures efficient engine performance at low fuel consumption. The engine
operates reliably with high sulfur fuels, a design feature for worldwide
deployment in regions with variable fuel quality.
The lubrication system uses a gear-type oil pump driven from the
crankshaft. The pump draws oil through a suction strainer in the oil
pan. Oil passes through a full-flow spin-on filter. The filter
cross-reference numbers include MANN W712/4 and WDK724/1. Bypass valve
opening pressure is 2.5 bar (36 psi). An oil cooler is integrated into
the system. Total oil capacity is 10.0-10.5 L (10.6-11.1 qt).
The service fill volume is 10.0 L. Oil pressure at rated speed measures
0.4-0.5 MPa (58-72 psi). A low oil pressure shutdown system protects the
engine, triggering automatic engine stop at 0.08 MPa (12 psi).
Recommended oil change interval is 500 hours. A spin-on oil filter
location on the maintenance side permits easy replacement.
The cooling system is water-cooled with thermostatic control. A
belt-driven centrifugal coolant pump circulates engine coolant through
the cylinder block water jacket and cylinder head. A wax-pellet
thermostat controls coolant flow. Coolant capacity for the engine and
cooling system is 11.0 L (11.6 qt).
An optional integrated cooling system is available for specific
applications. A high coolant temperature shutdown system protects the
engine, triggering an automatic stop if temperature exceeds safe limits.
The water-cooled configuration (W in the model designation) provides
consistent thermal management for continuous industrial duty cycles
where air-cooling would be insufficient.
