The Deutz BF6M1015CP is a 11.9-liter, V6
turbocharged diesel engine manufactured by DEUTZ AG. This powerful and
compact 4-cycle engine belongs to the 1015 series and is engineered for
heavy-duty applications including construction machinery, industrial
equipment, trucks, and generator sets. The designation BF6M1015CP
indicates a turbocharged and aftercooled V6 configuration with
mechanical fuel injection.
The engine features a robust grey cast iron crankcase with wet cylinder
liners, individual grey cast iron cylinder heads utilizing four-valve
technology, and a forced-feed lubrication system with an integrated oil
cooler. A notable engineering feature is the 30° offset crankpins
(split-pin design) in the V6 block, which ensures even firing intervals.
The engine meets Euro II and Euro III emission standards and is designed
for worldwide operation, including compatibility with high-sulfur fuel
grades.
The BF6M1015CP is a four-stroke, turbocharged, liquid-cooled diesel
engine operating on the compression-ignition principle. The engine
architecture is a 90-degree V6 configuration with a total displacement
of 11.9 L (726 cu.in), derived from a bore of 132 mm (5.20 in) and a
stroke of 145 mm (5.71 in). The compression ratio is set at 16.5:1.
The rated power at the crankshaft is 330 kW (442 hp) at 2,100 rpm.
Maximum torque is 1,875 Nm to 1,876 Nm (1,383 lb-ft to 1,384 lb-ft)
achieved at 1,300 rpm, providing strong low-end pulling power
characteristic. The idle speed is set at 600 rpm. The firing order for
this V6 engine is 1-6-3-5-2-4. The generator drive variant
(BF6M1015CP-LA G) produces 365 kW at 1,500 rpm for 50 Hz applications.
The cylinder block is manufactured from grey cast iron with a V6
configuration. The crankcase features a monobloc design utilizing
wet-type cylinder liners (exchangeable) integrated into the coolant flow
path, allowing for efficient heat dissipation and simplified overhaul
procedures.
The crankcase incorporates a closed-circuit, vacuum-controlled breather
system. The drop-forged steel crankshaft uses bolted counterweights and
features a 30° offset crankpin design (split-pin) for the V6
configuration to achieve even firing intervals. Tri-metal plain bearings
are used for main and big-end bearings. The drop-forged steel connecting
rods have a trapezoidal piston pin support.
Individual grey cast iron cylinder heads of crossflow design are used
for each cylinder. The valvetrain is an overhead valve (OHV)
configuration utilizing four-valve technology (two intake, two exhaust
valves per cylinder). The valves are actuated via pushrods and rocker
arms. The four-valve design provides superior airflow and combustion
efficiency.
The steel camshaft is driven by the front gear train. The cylinder heads
incorporate centrally arranged 8-hole injection nozzles. Valve clearance
requires periodic mechanical adjustment. The cylinder head gaskets are
multi-layer steel designs.
The BF6M1015CP is equipped with a direct injection fuel system utilizing
an in-line injection pump. The fuel supply system follows the
pump-pipe-nozzle configuration, where individual unit pumps generate
high pressure transmitted through high-pressure steel lines to 8-hole
injection nozzles mounted centrally in each cylinder head. A mechanical
centrifugal governor is standard, with an optional electronic engine
governor (EMR-2) available for generator set applications requiring
precise speed control.
A mechanical reciprocating fuel lift pump supplies fuel from the tank to
the injection pump. Two disposable cartridge-type fuel filters provide
primary and secondary filtration to protect the injection pump and
injectors from contamination. The robust mechanical injection system
allows worldwide operation even with high sulfur fuel grades. An
electric stop solenoid controls fuel shutoff.
The lubrication system is a forced-feed circulation design utilizing
gear-type pumps. The oil pump draws lubricant from the sump through a
strainer and delivers it to the main oil gallery. The system includes an
engine-integrated lube oil cooler to maintain oil viscosity under
high-load operation. A pressure regulating valve maintains stable oil
pressure within the system.
The initial oil filling capacity is 38 L (10.0 US gal). The engine
employs a disposable cartridge-type full-flow microfilter as the
replaceable oil filter element. The minimum oil pressure at rated speed
(1,500 rpm, oil temperature 90°C) is 3 bar (44 psi). The minimum oil
pressure at idle speed (600 rpm, oil temperature 90°C) is 1 bar (15
psi). The engine requires SAE 15W-40 diesel engine oil meeting API CF-4
or higher specification.
The BF6M1015CP utilizes a pressurized liquid cooling system with a
centrifugal water pump. The system circulates coolant through the
cylinder block and cylinder heads. The engine coolant capacity is 17 L
(4.5 US gal). The water pump flow rate is 260 L/min with a pressure of
1.25 bar (18 psi). Two thermostats are installed, with first opening at
79°C (174°F) and second at 87°C (189°F), fully opening at 94°C (201°F)
and 102°C (216°F) respectively.
The maximum allowable operating temperature is 103°C (217°F). The heat
carried off by the coolant is 170 kW. The charge air cooler
(intercooler) cooling power is 85 kW. The fan is the exhaust type,
gear-driven with a coupler, with a diameter of 880 mm (34.6 in). The fan
transmission ratio is 0.96, and the fan power consumption is 14 kW. The
allowable pressure loss of the cooling system including pipeline is 0.35
bar. The recommended coolant mixture is a 50/50 glycol-water blend.
| Intake and Exhaust Systems |
Air Intake and Turbocharging: The BF6M1015CP is equipped with a
turbocharger with an integral wastegate valve, providing low-speed
response and strong power delivery. Charge air cooling (CAC /
Intercooler) reduces the temperature of compressed air to increase
density and combustion efficiency. The intake system includes a
heavy-duty air cleaner.
Exhaust System: The exhaust system incorporates a turbocharger with a
122 mm (4.8 in) inlet size and a 117 mm (4.6 in) exhaust flange outlet.
The maximum allowable exhaust backpressure is 50 mbar.
Engine Management: The standard BF6M1015CP utilizes a mechanical
centrifugal governor for fuel regulation. An optional electronic engine
governor (EMR-2) with diagnostic capabilities and CAN-Bus communication
is available for generator set applications, enabling easy integration
into electronic device control and monitoring systems.
Electrical System: The electrical system is 24V. The three-phase
alternator is rated at 28V, 55A. The starter motor power is 9 kW.
Cold Start Capability: The engine features best cold starting properties
even under extreme conditions. The lowest ambient temperature for cold
starting without assistance is -17°C (1°F). With a flame preheat plug,
this is extended to -32°C (-26°F).
